Wladimir Klitschko has been long retired but that still doesn’t stop former champions calling out his name.
Klitschko was a long-ruling heavyweight with awesome knockout power. After a couple of upset wins early in his career, he hooked up with Manny Steward and formed a formidable partnership that saw him become a unified champion with wins over the likes of David Haye, Alexandr Povetkin and Kubrat Pulev.
His run came to an end in 2015 when he was dethroned by Tyson Fury out in Germany via unanimous decision. Fury took time away from the sport after that so ‘Dr Steelhammer never got his rematch, and instead took on Anthony Joshua in an epic fight in 2016 which he lost via TKO.
Klitschko walked away from the sport after that historic night at Wembley with his record at 69 fights, 64 wins and five losses. Despite now being aged 48, there are reports that he is contemplating a spectacular comeback to beat George Foreman’s record of oldest ever heavyweight champion.
Speaking to ESNEWS, fellow former heavyweight champion Shannon Briggs was asked about Klitschko potentially returning to look for revenge over ‘The Gypsy King.’
“Ah man don’t fight Fury, fight Shannon Briggs.”
Briggs famously spent years chasing Klitschko for a fight and taunting him with his catchphrase, ‘Let’s go Champ!’ but never had any success.
The Brownsville man, who has not fought since 2016, was then asked how that unlikely contest might go.
“He going to sleep, you know how it play.”
