A loss can be hard to take in the boxing ring so fighters will often cling onto things that make it easier for them to accept.
One man who has done that recently is Jarrell Miller, the loud-talking, 300lbs+ heavyweight from Brooklyn who was last out against Daniel Dubois on the Day of Reckoning Card in Saudi Arabia.
After landing plenty of shots on Dubois in the early rounds, the man who has been banned for failing drug tests came under heavy fire himself and was handed his first career defeat when he was stopped in the dying seconds of the 10th and final round.
Speaking to YSM Sports Media, ‘Big Baby’ claimed he felt the whole set-up favoured his English opponent, who will face fellow Brit Anthony Joshua in his next fight.
“The Dubois fight was so short notice.
Even though it was in Saudi I was fighting in England. I’m fighting the referees which are English, the officials are English, the promoter’s English
My own promoter sent me a lawsuit for $5m two weeks before the fight. I didn’t get my training expenses to get my team till two weeks before the fight.
It was so disorganised it was disgusting how I was treated before the fight. I’m not blaming that on Frank [Warren] but my own promoter did me and how things were going on behind the scenes. I was like damn I’m preparing for a tough a** fight but when money’s involved not body gives a f*** man, as fighters we’re risking our life.”
Miller is next out in another tough fight against former unified champion Andy Ruiz Jr on August 3.
