Canelo Alvarez and Terence Crawford are just months away from facing each other in what has been described as a ‘mega-fight’.

It was revealed at the beginning of the year that the modern pound-for-pound greats would lock horns in Las Vegas this September.

‘Bud’ Crawford is tasked with making the move up to 168lbs to challenge the Mexican superstar for his unified WBC, WBA and WBO super-middleweight titles, although the stakes could be raised even higher should Canelo defeat IBF champion William Scull on May 3 to become the undisputed champion once again.

Canelo vacated the IBF title last year after he opted to face Edgar Berlanga Jr instead of Scull, who had been named as his mandatory challenger. Scull defeated Vladimir Shishkin for the vacant IBF crown last October, setting up the huge undisputed championship showdown which takes place in Riyadh.

Despite Canelo having a hurdle in the way, many are making their predictions for the highly anticipated clash with Crawford. That includes former WBO heavyweight Shannon Briggs who, speaking to ESNEWS, made no mistake in backing ‘Bud’ Crawford becoming the very first man to drop and stop Alvarez.

“I got Crawford by stoppage. Brutal stoppage. I’m telling you Crawford by stoppage … [Betting] 100,000 dollars? I might make a little bit of bread.”

It is a bold prediction for a man in Crawford going up two weight classes to face one of the best chins in the business. In 66 fights, Canelo has lost just twice, both on points, to Floyd Mayweather and Dmitry Bivol.
