A young and ambitious heavyweight is confident that when the time comes he will be able to dethrone Daniel Dubois.

Dubois is the current IBF champion. He was scheduled to defend that title against Joseph Parker this month, however with less than 48 hours to go he fell ill with a viral infection and was pulled from the card.

It has rather slowed his previously good momentum, which includes marquee wins over a top trio – firstly Jarrell Miller in December 2023, then Fillip Hrgovic in June 2024, and most recently Anthony Joshua in September 2024.

One man keen to get his shot at Dubois is Moses Itauma, the 20-year-old hoping to become one of the youngest-ever world champions. So far has beaten the likes of Demsey McKean and Mariusz Wach and has a record of 11 fights, no losses, and nine KOs. He has sparred with the likes of Tyson Fury, Joe Joyce, Anthony Joshua and Dubois, impressing all of them.

Speaking to BoxNation, Itauma was asked if he rated the current crop of heavyweights.

“Honestly, not really. Don’t get me wrong there are some great fighters but once the Usyks, the Furys and the Joshuas are gone, I don’t really see much talent but there are some guys learning their trade.”

He was then asked if he rated Dubois in particular.

“Of course, you have to rate Daniel, he’s a very, very good fighter with his career he’s had so far, but I feel when me and him meet it’s going to be a different story. It’s just a matter of time really.”

What Dubois does next is so far unclear. He could honour the voluntary defence against Parker, who beat late stand in Martin Bakole inside two rounds, although another more likely option is to pursue an undisputed fight with Oleksandr Usyk, despite having already been stopped by the Ukrainian in summer 2023.
