Anthony Joshua is set to return to the ring sometime this year, but as of yet does not have an opponent.
Joshua suffered an elbow injury that required surgery this summer and has not got back to full punching so is not yet ready to start a serious camp.
Last time out in September 2024, he was stopped inside five rounds by the IBF champion Daniel Dubois. He is now 35-years-old, so any comeback will likely be his last run at world honours.
Speaking to The Stomping Ground, American Jarrell Miller, who was once deemed the ‘most feared heavyweight’, revealed that he has offered Joshua a fight but that the British two-time former world heavyweight champion has turned it down.
“‘AJ’ turned down the fight, and Jared Anderson and his team went quiet.”
In an interview with TalkSPORT, Miller revealed more.
“AJ turned down the fight four times in the last month, he is looking for a tune-up. Sorry guys in the UK, AJ is a real bag of fart dust.”
The pair, of course, have plenty of history. They were first set to meet at Madison Square Garden for Joshua’s debut Stateside contest back in June 2019. However, Miller failed a drug test late in the day, and Andy Ruiz Jr was brought in as a late replacement opponent. He shocked the world with an upset KO win, but lost the unified belts in the rematch in December of that same year.
After a ban, Miller took three years away and then came back to the world scene. He has fought to a draw with Ruiz Jr last August, lost to Dubois in December 2023 and beaten Lucas Browne in March of that year. He is now hunting for an opponent who can get him back in the frame for a world title shot, and Joshua would very much be that man were he to agree.
Promoter Eddie Hearn refuted the above, saying that, while Miller’s name has been mentioned, no formal offer or further discussions have been made.
