Larry Holmes Has No Doubt That One Current Heavyweight Would KO Prime Mike Tyson: “He’d Get Him”

Mike Tyson went 37 fights undefeated before a shock stoppage loss to Buster Douglas.

During that incredible rise to the top of the heavyweight division, he beat the likes of Trevor Berbick, Pinklon Thomas, Frank Bruno and Larry Holmes.

With ferocious power, an all-action style and a small build for a big man, Tyson is one of the most intriguing men to put against others in fantasy fights.

Holmes did just that when he pondered how Anthony Joshua would have fared in the opposite corner. The prediction was made in 2017 when Joshua was undefeated and coming off the back of a statement knockout win over Wladimir Klitschko.

Riding high on ‘AJ’, Holmes told the Express he would have knocked his former foe out.

“If he fought a guy like Mike Tyson, he’d win, he would have knocked out a prime Mike Tyson. There’s no reckon about it. Mike Tyson went down low and then came up and tried to throw roundhouses. But Joshua would just hit him with a straight right hand on the side of his damn chin and Mike wouldn’t get up”

“He never fought anyone who was coming up and trying to make their way in the sport. He just went in there – bang, bang, bang and knocked everyone out. That’s how he got the reputation as a puncher.

“I’m not taking anything away from Mike Tyson, he kicked my a**. But I was out for two years, I had quit boxing, I hadn’t done anything for two years apart from sing with the band and travel.”

Joshua has since taken four losses – one to Andy Ruiz Jr, two to Oleksandr Usyk and most recently against Daniel Dubois. It is no secret the big puncher from Britain is nearing the end of his career, but a rematch with Dubois and a long-awaited grudge match against Tyson Fury still remain.

As for Tyson, he recently returned to the ring at 58-years-old, losing to Jake Paul over the eight round distance.
