Evander Holyfield Names Heavyweight Record Breaker As The Strongest He Faced

The legendary Evander Holyfield once revealed the strongest opponent that he ever crossed paths with.

Known as ‘The Real Deal’, Holyfield is widely considered to be one of the greatest heavyweights to have ever laced up a pair of gloves.

The Alabama-native became the first fighter in boxing history to win the undisputed world championship at both cruiserweight and heavyweight, a record that remained unbroken until May of 2024 when Oleksandr Usyk matched it.

Holyfield produced a number of legacy-defining victories during his 27-year professional career, defeating the likes of Riddick Bowe, Mike Tyson, Larry Holmes and George Foreman to name just a few.

In a feature with The Ring Magazine, Holyfield made no mistake in naming the late-great Foreman as the strongest fighter he ever shared a ring with.

“Out of all the people, I would say George Foreman was the strongest. I could push anybody back, it wasn’t a problem. I couldn’t push George back. [Laughs.] You had to go around him.”

Known for his thunderous punching power, Foreman established himself as one of the best heavyweights to have ever graced the sport. ‘Big George’ shared the ring with a number of legendary heavyweights along the way, including Joe Frazier, Tommy Morrison, Ken Norton and Muhammad Ali.

He etched his name into the boxing history books back in November of 1994 when he defeated countryman Michael Moorer to unify the WBA and IBF heavyweight titles to become the oldest world heavyweight champion ever, a record that is yet to be broken.
