Evander Holyfield has a unique perspective on Mike Tyson’s upcoming fight against Jake Paul.
Tyson returns to the ring at the age of 58, nearly twenty years after his last professional fight when he retired on his stool against Kevin McBride.
Holyfield, who famously beat Tyson twice when they battled it out for the WBA heavyweight title back in 1996 and 1997, also made a comeback at age 58.
‘The Real Deal’ faced former UFC champion Vitor Belfort three years ago in a fight billed ‘No Holds Barred’. Holyfield was stopped on his feet by the MMA fighter after just 1:49 into the opening round with the former heavyweight champion showing little to no resistance and bad balance. The event was widely criticised.
Despite that result, and the fact Tyson is going up against an even younger man who has 11 professional boxing fights, Holyfield told Clocked n Loaded that he still expects his former opponent to get his hand raised.
“He’s [Mike Tyson] supposed to win.”
Holyfield said he would be going to the fight and that anything can happen in big money bouts.
“My whole thing is that it’s an exhibition, so I don’t know what’s gonna happen.
I just know that Mike Tyson’s supposed to beat him. He’s supposed to.
But, in a situation like this it’s a big money thing, so ain’t no telling what’s gonna happen. I’m gonna be there. I’ll go watch it.”
Paul vs Tyson takes place at the AT& stadium in Texas on November 15 and will be streamed live on Netflix as part of a standard subscription.
