Evander Holyfield has shared more rounds with Mike Tyson than just about any other fighter on the planet.
The two legendary heavyweight stars shared a pair of back-to-back fights together in November 1996 and June 1997. At that point, Tyson, who had become the youngest ever world heavyweight ruler aged just 20 back in 1986, was the WBA belt holder but surrendered it to former cruiserweight king Holyfield who beat him by stoppage.
The rematch is infamously known as ‘the bite fight‘ because after growing frustrated with what he thought were intentional headbutts from Holyfield, ‘Iron Mike’ took matters into his own hands and bit a chunky out of ‘The Real Deal’s ear, which led to him being disqualified.
Brit and former two-time WBC champion Tyson Fury is a very different fighter, a much bigger man and boxer who uses more skills and slick defences to get his work done.
He has just taken the first loss of his career after losing to Oleksandr Usyk in their undisputed fight in May but has a shot at redemption when they rematch on December 21 for three of the four major world titles.
In a round of winner stays on with Mail Sport Boxing, Holyfield was asked to pick a winner between ‘The Gypsy King’ and ‘Iron Mike’ and went with his old foe.
“Mike Tyson.”
Tyson controversially returned to the ring in November for a fight with Jake Paul, a former YouTuber less than half his age. He was barely able to throw a punch on his way to a majority points loss, after which he once again announced his retirement.
