Evander Holyfield Didn’t Hesitate When Asked Who Would Have Won Lennox Lewis vs Riddick Bowe Fight

Evander Holyfield is one of a few men to share the ring with both Lennox Lewis and Riddick Bowe.

The former world heavyweight champion fought Lewis and Bowe across five epic battles, with mixed results for ‘The Real Deal.’

He first took on Bowe in November 1992 when both fighters were unbeaten, but it was ‘Big Daddy’ who claimed the unanimous decision win to become WBA, WBC and IBF heavyweight champion.

A rematch took place 12 months later, with Holyfield earning the victory on this occasion, winning by majority decision to reclaim the WBA and IBF titles.

Holyfield’s final clash with Bowe was a non-title affair in 1995, with Bowe securing the eighth round knockout win to settle the rivalry and claim bragging rights in their trilogy bout.

Holyfield became champion again in 1996 with a win against Mike Tyson, and then turned his attention to a showdown with Lewis in 1999.

The first fight was controversially ruled a draw, with many believing that Lewis had done enough to win, and justice was seemingly done eight months later when the Brit won by unanimous decision to add the WBA and IBF titles to his WBC crown.

Lewis had first become WBC champion back in 1992 when Bowe vacated the belt in order to avoid facing his rival, with the governing body declaring Lewis the instant champion due to Bowe’s refusal to fight.

It has led to a bitter feud between the two men that still stands to this day, and Holyfield revealed who he would have picked to win whilst speaking to Boxing Social.

“If they fought early before Lennox got Emmanuel Steward, I think Riddick Bowe would’ve got him.”

The fight was first being ordered back in 1992 before ‘The Lion’ teamed up with legendary trainer Steward. Lewis meanwhile has recently given his view on Jake Paul’s victory over Tyson.
