Evander Holyfield doesn’t agree with Floyd Mayweather‘s perfect record.
Mayweather retired from the sport back in 2017 having never tasted defeat as a professional, defeating fighters such as Manny Pacquiao, Oscar De La Hoya and Canelo Alvarez along the way.
While he may have come out on top in all 50 of his fights, some boxing figures believe that the former pound-for-pound great was fortunate to get the verdict in some of them.
Jose Luis Castillo famously pushed the American close when they initially met, and now heavyweight legend Evander Holyfield has named the bout he believes Mayweather should have lost.
Holyfield is one of the most respected figures in boxing, having been the first man to become undisputed at both cruiserweight and heavyweight, whilst also holding the accolade of being the only four-time world heavyweight champion in history.
Speaking to Sports Inquirer, Holyfield believes that Mayweather should have suffered a defeat to Pacquiao when the two met in their huge battle back in 2015.
“I totally thought he did [win the fight]. I actually thought Pacquiao was doing well.
“The fact of the matter is, you’re the more aggressive one, you hit him with the shots… Pacquiao seemed to hit him (Mayweather) more times than he hit Pacquiao.”
Mayweather was victorious by unanimous decision when he took on Pacquiao over a decade ago. It was a huge commercial success but the action inside the ring was lacking, with most boxing fans believing the fight took place far later than it should have done.
