Moses Itauma is a rising star of the heavyweight division who has his sights set on many targets, including Tyson Fury.
Itauma has not been short on confidence since he burst onto the scene last year. The 21-year-old initially said he wanted to break Mike Tyson’s long-standing record and become the youngest ever world champion.
‘Iron Mike’ was just 20 when he achieved that feat, so Itauma has missed out, though he does have a similar early record to Tyson’s in that he has knocked out 11 of the 13 men he has faced so far, nine of them inside the first couple of rounds.
Most impressively, he stopped Dillian Whyte within the first two minutes of his last contest back in August.
He now has his sights set on the biggest fights possible, and ‘The Gypsy King’ is one of them, though Itauma has told Sky Sports he doesn’t think the feeling would be mutual.
“I don’t think Tyson would want to take that. I don’t know. For example, he’s got a big fight with Anthony Joshua, as in that fight can still gross massively. He himself knows that there are a lot of other fights that he probably would be able to make more money off and they wouldn’t be as much of a fight. So it doesn’t really make sense for him.”
Next up for Itauma is a rescheduled fight with American and former Anthony Joshua and Whyte victim Jermaine Franklin in April after the original fight was postponed from January due to a muscle tear.
