Moses Itauma is viewed by many as being the future of the heavyweight division.
The 20-year-old sensation has looked destructive during his career so far, putting together an unbeaten record of 12-0, with 10 wins coming by knockout, defeating the likes of Demsey McKean, Mariusz Wach and Mike Balogun inside the distance.
Next up, Itauma takes on former world title challenger Dillian Whyte in Saudi Arabia on August 16, in a fight that could move the youngster one step closer to a world title shot of his own.
Another man that is eagerly waiting for a crack at world honours in Joseph Parker, who has defeated Deontay Wilder, Zhilei Zhang and Martin Bakole in his last three fights to become the mandatory challenger for Oleksandr Usyk‘s WBO crown.
The WBO have ordered negotiations between the two camps to begin, but if for any reason Usyk decides to vacate his belt, a fight between Parker and Itauma could come to fruition, due to the British star currently being ranked number one with the sanctioning body.
Parker’s trainer Andy Lee was asked by IFL TV if a fight between his man and Itauma could interest them, and he warned the young heavyweight that he ‘may never be the same again’ if he was to fight the more experienced New Zealander.
“Moses is the future of the heavyweight division. For Moses, it’s a risky fight, for Joe it’s a risky fight. There’s no upside to beating Moses for Joe. He’s building his name and is a significant heavyweight now, but he’s an up-and-coming guy. Joe is already at the top.
“There’s a risk for Joe, but there’s a risk for Moses that if he fights Joe, he’s never the same again coming back from it if Joe has his way. It’s a risky fight for both men, it’s an exciting fight, maybe if it’s for the vacant title it will be worth it.”
For now, Itauma’s focus remains on Whyte, while Parker is hopeful of landing his showdown with undisputed king Usyk.
