Jake Paul is already thinking about who he will fight next after Anthony Joshua in December.
This surprise fight has shocked the world, given how little experience Paul has in the boxing ring at any level, not to mention at heavyweight.
In his career he has taken relatively safe bouts against former UFC fighters, boxers way past their best and a nearly 60-year-old Mike Tyson who has long had many health issues.
He has done well in those, winning 12 of 13 contests with just one point loss to Tommy Fury in 2023, though this is a huge step up, even if Joshua himself lost last time out to Daniel Dubois.
Joshua will have advantages in all departments – size, punch power, experience and reach, through the one thing that may prey on his mind is that last time he fought in the US, he suffered an upset knockout loss to Andy Ruiz back in 2019.
In a video shared by BBC Sport, Paul was asked if he was looking forward to ruining Joshua’s plans for 2026.
“100%. It’s a massive mistake to look past this, seriously. I’m putting a dent in all of [his] plans. Don’t arrange anything, don’t arrange flights and hotels. I’m knocking this guy out, becoming the CEO of Matchroom Boxing and changing the plans and it’s gunna be me against Tyson Fury next year.”
Many in the boxing world hope Fury will come out of retirement for a huge showdown with Joshua, though there would likely be just as much interest if Paul does indeed do as he says and wins this fight in December.
