Jake Paul‘s victory over Mike Tyson could well have opened the door to a world title shot.

Paul is still in the infancy of his career. His record now sits at 11 wins and just one loss, which came to Tommy Fury back in 2023. He has mostly beaten veteran MMA fighters.

Last weekend, he stepped into the ring with a 58-year-old Tyson and in a rather uneventful contest he landed enough clean shots to win the fight on points without inflicting any damage on the heavyweight legend.

One man that watched the event was boxing legend Oscar De La Hoya, who when speaking to IFL TV was asked for his reaction to the fight.

“I felt while watching it that I was disgusted, disgusted at Jake Paul for putting this together knowing Tyson was 58 years old. I’m a fighter myself, I once tried to come back at 48 and my body just shut down. Tyson is a world treasure, I felt a little disgusted, not on Mike Tyson, I felt bad for Tyson, but I’m proud of Tyson.”

He then turned his attention to Paul and offered him a world title fight with his charge Gilberto Ramirez.

“If you want to fight Zurdo, if you wanna fight Zurdo right now, let’s do it, and he will knock you out.”

Former super-middleweight champion Ramirez became a unified cruiserweight ruler at the weekend when he beat Chris Billam-Smith impressively by unanimous decision to defend his WBA title while adding the Brit’s WBO belt to his collection.

Ramirez’s only loss to date came against Dmitry Bivol at light heavyweight and it seems likely he will now look to face IBF champion Jai Opetaia for a second unification fight at cruiserweight.

With it being Paul’s natural weight class, paired with the fact he has made it clear he wants a world title, the 27-year-old will be expected to explore the offer.
