Jake Paul has built a professional boxing record of ten wins and one loss, with seven of those victories coming inside the distance.

Despite the majority of the names on his record being retired MMA fighters, sometimes much older or lighter in weight, Paul has become one of the most talked about fighters on the planet due to savvy marketing and some controversy.

Last time out he beat bare knuckle boxer Mike Perry and, in the aftermath, WBA President Gilberto Mendoza took to social media to praise the 27-year-old. To plenty of fans’ annoyance, he also offered Paul a route to a ‘championship.’

“Big congratulations to Jake Paul and Most Valuable Promotions on the show but also on the new fresh and innovative perspective you offer to the sport of boxing! Love what you do! … I am not against a Jake Paul vs Julio Cesar Chavez Jr for a championship…”

Chaves Jr also fought on the same card in a highly-criticised bout against Uriah Hall. The extremely lacklustre win should not – particularly after a stop-start career and almost three years of inactivity – be enough to earn a title shot.

That won’t matter to Paul, who may jump at the chance to earn a belt with one of the four major sanctioning bodies. Speaking on The Full Send podcast, he spoke on it for the first time and said it was an option.

“I want the toughest competition in the world, and by the way I’m still on a path to world championships behind the scenes. The WBA wants to set up me versus Julio Cesar Chaves [Jr] for the WBA belt, so that could very easily be a world championship right now. I’m four years into this and everyone is like do this, to that – relax, take a breath. I’m gonna get to all of these things and fight all the hardest people.”

Neither man currently ranks in the WBA top fifteen for the cruiserweight division, so whether or not it would be a special belt created remains to be seen.

On his future hit-list, Paul named KSI, Alex Pereira, Saul ‘Canelo’ Alvarez, Conor McGregor and a rematch with Tommy Fury to avenge his sole loss.

He returns to the ring on November 15 to face former undisputed heavyweight champion Mike Tyson, another controversial bout for its own reasons.
