Jake Paul brought Mike Tyson back to the boxing ring this past weekend, coasting to a unanimous decision win.
The controversial contest – set over eight two-minute rounds – failed to live up to the considerable hype created in the build-up.
Tyson, who was once the youngest ever heavyweight world champion, wasn’t able to rediscover any sort of form at 58-years-old and did well to find the energy to last the distance. His best effort at making it competitive came in the opening minutes.
Paul had received backlash for choosing to fight a man three decades his senior, but seemed to hold off pushing for a stoppage so no serious damage was done.
Speaking on his podcast, he was asked to comment on ‘Iron’ Mike’s power. Despite it often being said that it is the last thing to go from a fighter, the 27-year-old said he didn’t think much of the few shots landed on him. In fact, he believes Tommy Fury hits harder.
“Tommy Fury [is the most power I’ve felt in a fight]. It’s the shots you don’t see so Tommy was a little tricky. If you see the punch coming you can prepare for it, if all of a sudden you can’t see it and you get hit, that’s when it hurts. So Tommy was more tricky with that, but Mike’s punches I could see coming.
Tyson was strong but he didn’t land anything clean so I honestly didn’t feel Mike Tyson’s full power, which is good because obviously you don’t want to.”
The American has also been rocked by MMA star Tyron Woodley in their first contest but claimed that he fell into the ropes due to being off balance.
Fury handed Paul the sole lost on his 12-fight record back in February of 2023 in Saudi Arabia. The Brit took a split decision after eight round, surviving a knockdown and winning largely on doing the basics better.
Fury – half-brother of two-time heavyweight champion Tyson – has since leant into the influencer scene more, fighting and defeated Paul rival KSI and recently announcing his next bout against former UFC star Darren Till.
