Jake Paul boxed Mike Tyson over eight rounds, coasting to a decision win after it was apparent that the veteran was no danger in the ring.
The controversial contest headlined a Most Valuable Promotions card at the AT&T Stadium in Texas, breaking gate records for the state and featuring a fantastic rematch between Katie Taylor and Amanda Serrano.
The main event left a lot to be desired, with Tyson looking to put pressure on very early but almost immediately feeling the pace. Paul landed left hooks at will in the third round before taking the sting off his shots and making it more of an exhibition-style affair.
Of the shots ‘Iron’ Mike did manage to land, only one or two kept Paul honest. Speaking at the post-fight press conference, the 27-year-old was asked if he felt the infamous power from years prior and confirmed that it had gone – much like his his reflexes, speed and footwork.
“No [I didn’t feel his power]. Only because the crowd got turned up, but it didn’t actually hurt. But, I mean, nobody’s punches have really hurt. I got buzzed a little off Tommy Fury but that’s about it.”
Fans worldwide, despite being disappointed with the contest, will be pleased that the once youngest ever heavyweight world champion left the ring unscathed.
As for Paul, his campaign in the sport continues. Now with a record of 11-1, it’s unclear who he will target next, though there will always be options for big money events like this one.
