Jake Paul made his return to the ring last month.
The 28-year-old from Cleveland, Ohio defeated Mexico’s former WBC world middleweight champion Julio Cesar Chavez Jr on Saturday June 28 at the Honda Center in Anaheim, California.
Paul dominated proceedings from the opening bell, defeating Chavez via unanimous decision in what was a comprehensive and mature performance from the Youtuber-turned-boxer.
After picking up what was arguably the best win of his career, Paul has now set his sights on who he would like to face next as he looks to move even closer to securing himself a shot at a legitimate world title.
Just moments after he was declared the winner over Chavez, Paul made a series of call-outs to a number of highly rated fighters including reigning world cruiserweight champions Gilberto ‘Zurdo’ Ramirez and Badou Jack, as well as two-time world heavyweight champion Anthony Joshua.
Despite making these calls, ‘The Problem Child’ has now spoken out on social media and claimed he will be facing Mexico’s undisputed super-middleweight champion Canelo Alvarez next.
“Canelo is next”.
Canelo is just two months away from facing fellow pound-for-pound star Terence ‘Bud’ Crawford, with the duo set to do battle at the Allegiant Stadium in Las Vegas on Saturday September 13.
It was reported earlier this year that Canelo and Paul had been in negotiations to face each other, although these plans were squandered after the Mexican superstar opted to sign a four-fight deal with Riyadh Season, with the first fight on this lucrative deal coming against former IBF super-middleweight champion William Scull on May 3.
