Jake Paul is in high-demand following his controversial contest with 58-year-old Mike Tyson.
The 27-year-old American cruised to a unanimous decision victory over ‘Iron’ Mike, who looked every bit his age and only threatened in the first minute or two.
Despite the action being underwhelming in the main event, the Netflix-streamed card as a whole was record-breaking. As such, Paul has been called out by big names in the sport. Champions Artur Beterbiev, Gilberto Ramirez and Daniel Dubois have all thrown their hats into the ring, but the YouTuber-turned-fighter has always had another target.
“Me vs. Canelo at 200 pounds for the cruiserweight championship of the world is the biggest fight, arguably even bigger than me vs. Tyson. It makes so much sense. Canelo is on his way out. He’s going to want a payday, and I want to show the world that all the s**t I’ve been talking about beating Canelo is actually true.”
In response to those comments on social media, Paul seemed to have moved on from the idea.
“Why the f**k would I give him the payday? When I beat him it would be the same bulls**t and lies… that Canelo was too small and Jake Paul paid him off.”
There was a 60 pound weight difference when comparing the last time each fighter took to the official scales. Canelo will likely laugh off the ‘payday’ comments – on the Forbes list for the highest paid athletes of 2023 he was number five.
