James Toney Didn’t Hesitate When Asked If Floyd Mayweather Is The Best Of All Time

Hall of Famer James Toney gave a stark answer when asked if he believes Floyd Mayweather Jr is the greatest fighter ever.

‘Money’ Mayweather is widely considered to be one of the best to have ever graced the sport, winning world titles in five weight classes during his exceptional career.

He remained unbeaten for the duration of his tenure, racking up victories over the likes of Saul ‘Canelo’ Alvarez, Oscar De La Hoya and Manny Pacquiao to name just a few.

His 2015 victory over Pacquiao, which was dubbed ‘The Fight Of The Century’, is regarded as being one of the most memorable events in boxing history despite the fact that the fight itself failed to live up to expectations.

Mayweather drew the curtain on his career back in 2017, shortly after he stopped MMA legend Conor McGregor in the 10th round of their monumental crossover bout in Las Vegas, Nevada.

Speaking on the Wisenuts Podcast, retired three-weight world champion James Toney blasted the credentials of Mayweather as he claims his countryman is ‘not even close’ to being considered the greatest fighter of all time.

“Not even close … Have him fight in my era. He didn’t fight the fighters that were around in the ’90s. He waited till they retired and got out the game. He didn’t fight Chavez. He wouldn’t fight Chavez. He wouldn’t beat Chavez. Hatton was s**t. Garbage. He beat ‘Canelo,’ I’ll give him that.”

It has been reported by multiple sources that ‘Money’ will make a shock return to the ring next year, with rumours circulating about a potential exhibition showdown with heavyweight great Mike Tyson.
