James Toney Delivers 5 Word Verdict On Mike Tyson vs Floyd Mayweather Fight

Hall of Famer James Toney has shared his thoughts on a the recently announced match-up between Floyd Mayweather and Mike Tyson.

It was recently revealed that former undisputed heavyweight champion ‘Iron Mike’ and five-weight world champion Mayweather will face off in an exhibition bout in 2026, with more news to come regarding the finer details.

‘Iron Mike’ made a controversial return to the ring for the first time in just shy of 20-years last November when he faced Youtuber-turned-fighter Jake Paul over eight rounds at a packed-out AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Texas.

As for Mayweather, the Michigan-native has not fought as a professional since he defeated UFC legend Conor McGregor in the 50th and final bout of his glittering professional career, stopping the Irishman in the 10th round of their Las Vegas showdown in August 2017.

Speaking to Mill City Boxing, three-weight world champion Toney was asked to share his thoughts on the possibility of Tyson and Mayweather sharing the ring with each other in the near future. In short, he said, “I’m not gonna watch it.”

“I think nothing … Matter of fact I’m not gonna watch it, because I know it might be some bulls**t involved, I’m tired of this s**t man, I like real fighting, blood and guts.”

Mayweather has teased a potential return to the ring since his last outing back in August 2024 which came against John Gotti III in an exhibition clash, after their first encounter was declared a no contest. He recently said he is also in talks to return in a professional bout.
