Mike Tyson has been talking over the last few weeks about rediscovering his nasty side. At the weigh-in for their upcoming fight, Jake Paul had a small taste of what that looks like.
The pair will face off over eight two-minute rounds this weekend in a bout that is as controversial as it is trending. Tyson, 58, retired back in 2005 but feels he has what it takes to defeat 27-year-old Paul, who has had 11 fights and ten wins.
At the ceremonial weigh-in, ‘Iron’ Mike took offence at Paul stepping on his toe and promptly slapped him. He explained his actions to the New York Post.
“I was in my socks and he had on shoes. He stepped on my toe because he is a f–king a–hole. I wanted to think it happened by accident. But now I think it may have happened on purpose. I was in a lot of pain. I had to reciprocate.”
Speaking to Mill City Boxing, James Toney said it was a fraction of what Tyson could have hit Paul with.
“That was a tap.”
The three-weight world champion then went into detail about what will happen if ‘Iron’ Mike lands properly inside the ropes.
“Please. He’d be half way across the stage [if he hit him for real] … This fight isn’t going the distance. The only way it goes the distance is if they agree upon it. Some bulls**t, which Jake Paul probably did. ‘Please go easy on me Mike’ – f**k all that.”
Paul vs Tyson tops the bill at the AT&T Stadium, Texas, with chief support from Katie Taylor and Amanda Serrano as well as Mario Barrios defending his WBC Welterweight World Title against Abel Ramos.
Some in the sport have predicted that the main event will be more of an exhibition style contest.
