Jaron ‘Boots’ Ennis looks to be on a collision course with one unbeaten contender as he gears up to make his super-welterweight debut.
‘Boots’ previously held the unified WBA and IBF world welterweight titles before he opted to vacate the belts ahead of his debut at 154lbs. His last outing came back in April when he stopped Lithuania’s Eimantas Stanionis in the 6th round of their Atlantic City clash.
Ennis will be looking to move on to a world title shot at super-welterweight should he be victorious on Saturday night, although the 28-year-old looks to be on the radar of unbeaten WBC interim super-welterweight champion Vergil Ortiz Jr, who is said to be interested in facing his countryman in the near future.
Speaking to The Ring Magazine, Ennis’ promoter Eddie Hearn shared an update on a potential clash between Ennis and Ortiz, which he sensationally claims is the ‘best fight in boxing’.
“I know that Oscar [De La Hoya] wants to make the best fights in boxing, that is the best fight in boxing, like certainly in American boxing, two of the best young fighters in the world, it is such a great, great fight and I think they think they can win. I know we win, so we’re in. So as long as they agree to all the terms that we agreed on in that room, the fight happens.”
Ortiz is set to make his first ring appearance since February next month, as he prepares to Erickson Lubin in the second defence of his WBC interim title at 154lbs.
