Jaron Ennis is searching for big fights.

The 27-year-old from Philadelphia has made one defence of his IBF Welterweight World Title since being elevated to champion when Terence Crawford moved up a division.

That win over David Avanesyan was followed by a call from ‘Boots’ to the other champions in the division. Frustratingly, he was ordered to instead face number one challenger Karen Chukhadzhian – a man he beat for the Interim title just last year.

‘Boots’ father and trainer Bozy Ennis recently spoke to Fight Hub TV, reiterating their desire to unify but making it clear that a move up to super-welterweight was on the cards if those fights didn’t materialise quickly.

“That’s what we want to do after we collect the belts, if we get a chance to collect – cause you know, like you said, it’s hard for him to get fights. Eventually we’re moving up to 154. And after that we’re gonna move up to 160, and maybe 168. Yeah, we’re on a quest.”

“All the ones that got the titles, that’s who I want. [If] we can’t get none of them then we’re probably gonna move on up.”

In order to unify, ‘Boots’ would need to face WBO Champion Brian Norman Jr, the WBC’s Mario Barrios or WBA titlist Eimantas Stanionis. His promoter, Eddie Hearn, has been open about the fact that they have reached out to the other champions but had no success in securing signatures, particularly with Norman with whom there was a very public back and forth.

Should he move up to the 154 pounds ranks, ‘Boots’ Ennis takes a step closer to the fight he has wanted for some time against Crawford, who recently made his debut in the division, winning the WBA belt against previously undefeated Israil Madrimov.

Crawford has been relatively dismissive of the fight in the past, but seems to be running out of options should a fight with Saul ‘Canelo’ Alvarez at super-middleweight not happen.
