With a new promotional deal behind him and regular additions to his highlight reel, Jaron Ennis is fast becoming a star of the sport.
Having benefitted from the formerly undisputed Terence Crawford’s decision to move up to 154lbs, ‘Boot’s got the world title he desired but missed out on facing the division’s best to win it.
He has continued to call for the fight and his new promoter, Eddie Hearn, has said he will make move up in weight for it in the future. For now, though, ‘Boot’s told YSM Sports Media he has one clear goal – collect the belts at 147.
“Definitely I was looking for the biggest fights possible. I wanted Terence Crawford but I guess he’s looking other ways and trying to find other fights. My main goal right now is to become undisputed at 147, collect these belts.”
To do so, he has three potential opponents – the WBO Champion Brian Norman Jr, the WBC’s Mario Barrios or the WBA Regular Champion Eimantas Stanionis. Hearn says he offered Barrios the Ennis fight but he is currently in talks to defend against a 45-year-old Manny Pacquiao. In fact, the promoter says offers have been put to all three champions.
Instead, and frustratingly, Ennis has been called to defend his belt in a mandatory fight against Karen Chukhadzhian – someone he already beat in January 2023 for the Interim belt.
