Jaron Ennis is back in action this weekend.
Ennis defends his IBF welterweight title in his hometown against mandatory challenger Karen Chukhadzhian at the Wells Fargo Center in Philadelphia on Saturday.
‘Boots’ went up against Chukhadzhian in January 2023, dominating every round on all three of the judges’ scorecards to earn the one-sided win.
If Ennis is once again victorious this weekend, fans will begin speculating over who he could face next, with Terence Crawford continuously linked as a potential option.
‘Boots’ appears to have cooled that talk though, telling TMZ Sports that he is no longer worried about the Crawford fight and his main target is becoming undisputed at welterweight.
“I be getting tired of talking about me and him [Crawford] because he say one thing and everybody else say another. I’m not worried about it. He’s looking for Canelo.
I could move up in weight, but right now my main focus is to be undisputed at 147. That’s my goal. Like I said, after I win on November 9th and get my mandatory out of the way, it’s time to collect the rest of these belts and make these bigger fights happen.”
The other champions at 147lbs include WBO titleholder Brian Norman Jr, who Ennis was close to fighting this year, before negotiations broke down and forced ‘Boots’ to take on Chukhadzhian again.
Eimantas Stanionis is the WBA champion, and Mario Barrios holds the WBC belt. Barrios defends his title against Abel Ramos on the Mike Tyson vs Jake Paul card at the AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Texas on Friday 15 November and Ennis clearly thinks that is the biggest fight in the division for him.
“In my division, [Mario] Barrios probably got the biggest name besides myself at 147, and I think me and him would go crazy. Everybody would want to see that!”
While Ennis vs Crawford may not look to be happening soon, one man to take them both on in recent years is David Avanesyan, and he has revealed which man hits harder.
