Jarrell Miller has never been shy of offering his opinions on his heavyweight peers, and Moses Itauma has now received the same treatment.
Miller is an outspoken American heavyweight who has had a controversial career with plenty of ups and downs. His first shot into the public consciousness was when he was due to fight Anthony Joshua for his American debut in June 2019. However, in the weeks before the contest, he tested positive for banned substances and was pulled from the card, only to be replaced by Andy Ruiz Jr.
Ruiz Jr got a famous win that night while Miller remained out of action until three years later. He had just six fights in the next four years, tested positive for banned substances once again and took a KO loss to Daniel Dubois in December 2023, drew with Ruiz Jr in 2024 and then got a split decision win against Kingsley Ibeh back in January, but not before having his toupee knocked clean off his head.
Miller returns this weekend against Lenier Pero in a bid to stake his claim as worthy of a world title shot, however discussions surrounding future champions remain firmly focused on Itauma.
Speaking to Matchroom Boxing, ‘Big Baby’ was asked for his views on rising star Moses Itauma and didn’t hesitate.
“Future champ.”
Both Oleksandr Usyk and Tyson Fury have also named Itauma as a future champion. He is 21 years old and has won all 14 of his fights so far in quick and impressive fashion, with 11 knockout wins inside two rounds. Last time out, he broke down and stopped American Jermaine Franklin inside six rounds despite the same man lasting 12 rounds with both Anthony Joshua and Dillian Whyte when they fought.
He is now chasing a world title but will likely be out in the summer with another big fight before getting his chance to fight for his maiden belt.
