Recently it seemed that an explosive fight between Anthony Joshua and Deontay Wilder has passed fans by.

The American suffered losses to both Joseph Parker and Zhilei Zhang, resulting in him plummeting in the heavyweight rankings and considering retirement. Meanwhile, Joshua was winning.

That all changed this past weekend when the Brit failed in his attempt to become a three-time world champion, knocked out by Daniel Dubois in five rounds. The fight, which didn’t materialise when both were champions, now becomes realistic once more.

Speaking to Boxing Social, heavyweight Jarrell Miller – who has had run-ins with both men outside of the ropes – backed Joshua to win due to the better set of skills.

“Yeah I think an AJ and Deontay fight would definitely be interesting still. I think I would pick AJ in that fight, only because he will let the right hand go and Deontay hasn’t been letting his right hand go. I think they’re still both gun-shy but I favour AJ just a little bit because he has a good jab when he lets it go, he has a good right hand, he has sneaky uppercuts.

Deontay doesn’t have no frigging boxing fundamentals. He’s a wild man. The sad part about it is the wilder Deontay Wilder is the better it serves him. He needs to stick to that thing. The minute Malik Scott started teaching him to box, he started getting f***ed up … Teaching him how to box now against superior boxers is the worst thing they could’ve did to him.”

The fight, recently thought to be dead in the water, has become a real possibility due to the bruising losses each man has suffered in recent times. It no longer represents a crowning of the king of the heavyweight division, rather a battle for survival.
