Joe Joyce has an inside view of what it’s like to fight Daniel Dubois and [tag]Joseph Parker.
Former Olympic silver medalist Joyce faced Dubois back in 2020 and forced his opponent to take a knee and get counted out in the 10th round.
It came as a result of the damage inflicted on Dubois’ eye thanks to Joyce repeatedly landing his ramrod jab. With obscured vision, ‘DDD’ wasn’t able to land much of his own, nor could he ably defend against what was coming at him.
After that win, Joyce went on to beat Carlos Takam and Christian Hammer before then stepping into the ring with former WBO world champion Parker. Joyce again did well to impose himself on the durable New Zealander and eventually stopped him in the 11th round.
That was in 2022, but in 2023 disaster struck when Joyce was twice stopped by Zhilei Zhang and he continues to rebuild from that on March 1 when he fights an as yet unnamed opponent.
Given his experience of facing both Parker and Dubois, Joyce has been speaking about what might happen when the pair meet as ‘DDD’ defends his IBF World Heavyweight Title on February 22.
He told FightHype that Parker needs to remain aware of the champion’s knockout power.
“I’m excited to see it. Obviously Dubois hits hard, he’s stepped up. Parker as well, they have both come along and been in big fights. I’m excited to see who gets the win. Both have different attributes but may the best man win.”
