John Fury has named the man he thinks will rise to heavyweight supremacy once the current crop of champions retires.
Fury’s son, Tyson, is currently retired but many hope he will come back for at least one more fight. Even if that is the case, ‘The Gypsy King’ is a part of the generation of Oleksandr Usyk, Anthony Joshua and Deontay Wilder, who will all be hanging up the gloves sooner rather than later.
The future is bright, however, with Daniel Dubois a younger champion at just 27. The Brit soon has the chance to become undisputed when he takes on Usyk in July at Wembley Stadium. Joseph Parker, 33, still has plenty left in the tank, and young Moses Itauma is believed by many to be the next big thing.
However, Fury Senior has suggested to Seconds Out that it is in fact a German heavyweight in Agit Kabayel who could be the future star of the division.
“The man to look out for is Agit Kabayel, he’s the danger man. I like what he does, him. Cool, calm, collected, takes a shot, gets off the floor and wins.
“For my money, out of these new heavyweights, Agit Kabayel is the one to watch. All these guys like Joe Parker, all the guys like them, they’re the older school now, they’ve had their chance. Their time has been and gone.
“Agit Kabayel does it for me and I think at the end of the day day he can rock it with the best of them.”
Kabayel stopped Zhilei Zhang via torturous body shots last time out and has already beaten Arslanbek Makhmudov and Frank Sanchez as part of an impressive run that has made him one of the breakout talents in the banner division.
He will reportedly have a homecoming fight, defending his WBC Interim belt before getting back to the top table and hopefully challenging for world honours in 2026.
