John Fury has named the man who he believes will defeat Oleksandr Usyk.
Fury saw his son Tyson take part in two fights with Usyk in 2024. The Ukrainian won both of them to become undisputed heavyweight champion and hand ‘The Gypsy King’ the first defeats of his professional career
Usyk has also beaten Anthony Joshua twice, and now prepares to take on Daniel Dubois at Wembley Stadium on July 19 for a second time.
Usyk beat Dubois by ninth round stoppage back in August 2023. Though he outboxed the Brit for most of the fight, the Ukrainian was dropped with what Dubois thought was a body shot, only for it to be ruled as a low blow. The promotion for this rematch – for undisputed again since Usyk dropped the IBF belt and Dubois picked it up – is largely being centred around that controversial shot.
John Fury was asked by Seconds Out who wins and he firmly backed ‘DDD.’
“Good luck to Oleksandr Usyk, but again, he’s going to go on too long. And I just see Daniel Dubois becoming a multi-belt champion. Because how many fights have you got in you? You come up from cruiserweight to heavyweight, you’ve got these big men banging away at you. He’s only got to walk into one.
“He’s every chance. The man’s 38, 39 years old. Dubois is a big banger and he’s on a roll. Excellent fight with Anthony Joshua. AJ hurt him. It was touch and go that fight until he landed that shot, because I actually thought when AJ rushed in to get him he hurt him … He’s got this KO power.
“If he gets it home this time on Usyk, who’s had the tank emptied twice by the Gypsy King, how much has he got left? Is it the right time for Dubois? I think it is. My money’s going on him.”
While many fans do believe that this version of Dubois could be Usyk’s toughest test to date, the Ukrainian has revealed that there is one fighter out there who hit him even harder than ‘DDD.’
