John Fury has weighed in on his son Tyson Fury‘s impending return to the ring against the hard-hitting Arslanbek Makhmudov.
‘The Gypsy King’ is set to face the Russian giant in a heavyweight showdown at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium in London on Saturday April 11.
Fury has not fought since he suffered a unanimous decision defeat to former undisputed heavyweight champion Oleksandr Usyk at the conclusion of their rematch in Riyadh back in December of 2024.
The 37-year-old from Morecambe announced his retirement from the sport shortly after he was beaten by Usyk for the second time, although he is now on course to make yet another return but is faced with what could prove to be a tough test in Makhmudov.
In an interview with The Daily Mail, Fury’s father John gave an honest assessment of Tyson’s upcoming clash with Makhmudov as he claims the Russian will be a ‘problem’ for the former unified world heavyweight champion.
“Makhmudov is a problem for Tyson. I am the first one to say it. Listen, I understand now that Tyson is testing himself. But, I can tell you now, his legs aren’t there anymore. I understand the only way he will believe that and see that is when the first bell rings.”
Whilst he appears to be focused on coming through his clash with Makhmudov without a hitch, Fury recently expressed an interest in facing Ukrainian superstar Usyk in a trilogy contest this year, although ‘The Gypsy King’ could be in line to face long-term domestic rival Anthony Joshua before the end of the year.
