Tyson Fury has the right to rematch Oleksandr Usyk after he suffered his first professional loss in their undisputed heavyweight championship fight this month.

‘The Gypsy King’ had clear successes in the fight, but it was the 37-year-old from Ukraine who had more in the tank and finished strongly to win a split decision.

It was a high-level thriller and one fight that many will be happy to see play out once more, but there are some opinions that Fury could retire instead.

Speaking to Boxing King Media, former cruiserweight champion turned pundit, Johnny Nelson, revealed why he thinks the Brit will struggle to commit to the second fight.

“The reason why I say Tyson Fury will struggle to fight again – and I don’t care what Frank Warren says, I don’t care what Spence Brown says, these are not fighting folk – Tyson has got to look at that fight.

From a fighting brain he’s got to get it in his head and think ‘that happened to me. I got rocked by this gap-toothed, jumped-up middleweight. All the things I’ve said and put the pressure on myself, I’ve let this guy do this to me.’ And Tyson’s head will be absolutely fried.”

Asked if he thinks Fury will hang up the gloves, Nelson said yes.

“I don’t think he comes back. And listen, he might see this and say ‘I’ll show you.’ I’m telling you now, he’ll watch the fight and his heart will be broken.

And they’re going to [try] talk him into it, ‘blah blah come on Tyson,’ and I understand he gets bored, he gets frustrated and he wants to fight. That’s his medication. I think his head will be that fried, it will take a lot to bring him back.”

The prediction goes directly against news from Fury’s team, who announced their man has activated the rematch clause officially and will prepare for another date in Saudi Arabia towards the end of the year. Usyk has welcomed the second fight.
