Tyson Fury has been forced to deal with the first loss of his career thanks to a four-belt worthy performance from Oleksandr Usyk.
The Brit captured the unified heavyweight titles in 2015 by dethroning Wladimir Klitschko. A stint out of the ring due to mental health and addiction issues left many wondering if he would ever return.
After a successful comeback that saw him star in a thrilling trilogy with Deontay Wilder, he recently took his first-ever loss and surrendered his hard-fought WBC title to Oleksandr Usyk in the first undisputed showdown for 25 years.
Speaking to Seconds Out, Boxing pundit Johnny Nelson addressed a recent video of Fury looking worse for wear in a local bar. He double down on recent claims that Fury will pull out of the contracted rematch with Usyk in December due not being able to process the defeat.
“There’s no law against getting drunk. I think for Tyson Fury, the realisation of what’s happened to him will kick in slowly but surely. He’s got to think about it, think I couldn’t have prepared any better.
I don’t believe Tyson will fight Oleksandr Usyk next, or again. He either packs in or if Usyk retires or packs in then we see Tyson. He will retire because of the manner of the defeat – he’s struggling to deal with it.”
He reiterated that Fury shouldn’t be criticised for what he does outside of the ring, but worried about the implications given the loss.
“He’s not done anything wrong, he’s just got p***ed. It probably buys into all the theories of where his head is at and whether he will box again and where his head’s going to be at for the Usyk rematch.”
Fury himself has announced he is now back in training for the second fight.
