Tyson Fury has very few questions left to answer inside the ring, but Johnny Nelson thinks he has one big thing to consider outside it.
The Gypsy King has had a storied career that has seen him twice become world champion. The first time was back in 2015 when he defeated the great and long-ruling Wladimir Klitschko, the second time was in his rematch with Deontay Wilder.
After a draw in their first contest, Fury knocked out ‘The Bronze Bomber’ to become WBC champion and kept that status until earlier this year by beating Wilder once more as well as the likes of Dillian Whyte and Derek Chisora.
However, his undisputed fight in May with Oleksandr Usyk saw him take his first loss, and in the rematch this past weekend he was unable to reverse the result.
Speaking to Froch on Fighting, Nelson was asked what the man who has won belts at every level of boxing should do now.
“I think he should walk away. And that’s only because his heart and soul will be absolutely broken, But I can see what will happen. They will dangle a massive carrot between him and ‘AJ’ to fight each other. But these guys are mad millionaires, they don’t need to fight.
“It’s a case of they will become mercenaries. If you’ve been at the top of the world and been the best or believe you’ve been the best it’s very hard to perform underperform for anything else just to be a guy making up the numbers.”
