Johnny Nelson has offered a surprise verdict on Jake Paul‘s fight with Anthony Joshua and has questioned one thing about the former heavyweight ruler.
Joshua is, quite rightly, an overwhelming favourite going into this fight on December 19. He is a former Olympic Gold medalilst and two-time unified ruler who has shared the ring with the best of his generation and has been a professional for over a decade.
Paul has been boxing for less than half of that, and never against anyone at the same level or same size as Joshua.
In a conversation with Duke McKenzie, former cruiserweight world champion Nelson offered his insight into the contest.
“The pressure is on AJ. 1% of 1% think Jake Paul has got a chance, and anybody who tells you differently is lying. So most people will watch this to see Jake Paul get his ar*e given to him, in reality, and they’ll also watch to see how ‘AJ’ Is getting on.
“‘AJ’ has done many times before, he’s dropped the ball, he’s not performed to the best of his ability and lost or got knocked out. So the question mark is above ‘AJ’, which ‘AJ’ will turn up? Even if the wrong ‘AJ’ turns up he should still win the fight. My worry is ‘AJ’ turns up and he underestimates Jake Paul.”
He then laid out what he sees as the best game plan.
“With ‘AJ’ he will struggle to respect Jake Paul as a threat and if Jake Paul gets 15 seconds of success ‘AJ’ is going to get vilified. So people say he wants to go out there and knock him out, Not he doesn’t, he wants to go out there and teach him a lesson and torture him,”
The fight takes place over eight rounds, with 10 oz gloves and knockdowns allowed, so many suspect it will be a quick night’s work for Joshua.
