Johnny Nelson is the latest to weigh in on the upcoming battle between Chris Eubank Jr. and Conor Benn.
These two British boxers have been on a collision course for a number of years after they were all set to face off back in October 2022 before it was found that Benn tested positive for a banned substance.
The 28-year-old has spent the time since attempting to clear his name and won his case with the National Anti Doping Panel in the UK late last year, at which point negotiations soon began with Eubank once more.
The fight is now set and will take place at 160 lbs, which favours Eubank, the naturally bigger man, while Benn has mostly fought at welterweight, two divisions below. He has also only had two low-key fights in the last two years, winning both on points.
Eubank meanwhile had back-to-back bouts with former world champion Liam Smith. He lost the first one by KO, but won the second by the same method before stopping Kamil Szeremeta in October 2024.
Speaking to Sky Sports Boxing, former champion turned pundit Nelson gave his view on the grudge match.
“At one point I said Conor Benn was one of the most improving fighters I’d seen until his career came to a stop. So through inconsistency in his career, I’m leaning toward Chris. Chris is the naturally bigger fighter, he can fight, he’s been in with a higher calibre of opponent, he’s been busier than Conor, so you’ve got to go with common sense.
“I just don’t think Conor has been active enough as a professional fighter to win this fight.”
