Former cruiserweight champion of the world Johnny Nelson has broken down the upcoming fight between Daniel Dubois and Fabio Wardley.

This fight is the first all-British world heavyweight title contest since Dubois knocked out Anthony Joshua to defend his IBF world title in September 2024.

That was the third in a superb three-fight run following KO wins over Jarrell Miller and Fillip Hrgovic, however, he then surrendered his belt to Oleksandr Usyk in July last year when they fought for a second time, again losing by KO.

He has not fought since then, and in the meantime, Wardley has emerged as the WBO ruler. He beat Justis Huni and Joseph Parker last year, both times by late knockout, despite being behind on the cards.

Those wins saw the Ipswich man promoted to full WBO ruler after Usyk vacated rather than defend against Wardley, who was his mandatory.

Speaking to RS Boxing TV, Nelson found it hard to pick an outright victor between Wardley and Dubois.

“It’s a tough one, I would lean towards Daniel Dubois but then Fabio Wardley is a very clever fighter. He is a fighter that knows how to navigate himself through tough times, hard times, rough times.

“It’s a pick ‘em, it will be a wicked fight, either way. Right now, I’m going to say Daniel [will win], but my mind could be changed tomorrow.”

Both men have plenty of power and have knocked out the majority of their opponents, so this fight is likely to be hugely entertaining as long as it lasts.
