Roy Jones Jr has been speaking about a potential bout between Jaron Ennis and Terence Crawford.
Crawford is one of the pound-for-pound stars of the boxing world. He is a former undisputed super-lightweight champion who then cleaned out the welterweights and after beating Errol Spence Jr became undisputed in a second weight class.
Most recently he moved up another division to 154lbs and won a world title at the first time of asking by beating Israil Madrimov by unanimous decision in August 2024.
Since then he has been linked with plenty of big fights – chiefly with Canelo Alvarez despite the Mexican boxing up at super-middleweight.
A more possible option seems to be a fight with the much-talked-about welterweight star and IBF champion ‘Boots’ Ennis, though Crawford has admitted he doesn’t have much to gain from the contest.
Ennis fought twice in 2024, first, he defeated European belt holder David Avanesyan via fifth round stoppage and then he defended his title in his second bout against Karen Chukhadzhian at Wells Fargo Center in Philadelphia in November, this time winning by unanimous decision.
Speaking to Mill City Boxing, former world champion Jones needed just five words to hint that Ennis is the one man capable of beating ‘Bud.’
“If anybody can do it.”
Jones then expanded on how a fight between the two would go.
“Jaron is a helluva fighter, no question about it, that’s almost a pick ’em. But Terence, cause Terence has been pound-for-pound for so long, my pick would be Terence early. But Jaron is a guy that definitely has the power and the fireworks and the skill.”
