Roy Jones Jr believes there is just one fighter who ranks higher than the legendary Sugar Ray Robinson.

Regarded by many as one of, if not the greatest fighter to have ever laced up the gloves, Robinson began his professional career back in 1940 and would go on to have no less than 201 fights during his 25-year tenure.

He would reign as the world welterweight champion for half a decade between 1946 and 1951, before eventually making the move up to middleweight where he captured the world championship on five separate occasions, defeating the likes Jake LaMotta and Rocky Graziano during this period.

Speaking to RealLyfe Productions, Jones Jr was asked to name his ‘Mount Rushmore’ of boxing, naming just one fighter ahead of ‘Sugar Ray’.

“It’s very hard to say but if I had to create my own Mount Rushmore, it would be tough but I’d put [Muhammad] Ali first, I’m gonna take myself out just because it’s me doing it. I’d put Ali first, I would probably put Sugar Ray Robinson seconds … I would probably put Roberto Duran third … then I’d probably put Mike Tyson somewhere around the fourth.”

Jones Jr isn’t alone as viewing Ali and Robinson as being two of the greatest ever, with fans and pundits usually torn between who was actually the better of the two.

Known simply as ‘The Greatest’, Ali remains arguably the most influential fighter in boxing history, proving himself to be what many regard as the finest heavyweight fighter to ever grace the sport.
