Boxing great Roy Jones Jr has had his say on the upcoming clash between Jaron Ennis and Xander Zayas.

It was revealed this week that Zayas will make the first defence of his unified WBA and WBO world super-welterweight titles against Ennis at the Barclays Center in New York City on Saturday June 27.

Unbeaten Puerto Rican star Zayas was last in action back in January when he defeated Abass Baraou via split decision to add the WBA 154lb title to his collection.

As for ‘Boots’, the 28-year-old from Philadelphia made his super-welterweight debut back in October when he stopped Uisma Lima in the opening round of their showdown to capture the WBA ‘interim’ world title.

Speaking to Fight Hub TV, Jones Jr shared his initial reaction to Ennis vs. Zayas as he claims the intriguing unification match-up is a 50-50 fight’.

“The winner of that fight should dominate the junior middleweight division for a little while because those are the top two guys of the division. They’re meeting at a great time and whoever wins this fight should be the supreme 154 pounder right now.

“Yeah it is a 50-50 fight. It’s 50-50 in a sense but because of the experience you can go 60-40, 60 with Boots, 40 with Xander, but it kind of is a 50-50 fight.”

Whilst many believes ‘Boots’ is on the verge of establishing himself as a pound-for-pound superstar, Zayas will do all he can to try and spoil the party and produce a legacy defining performance against the former WBA and IBF welterweight champion when they meet in June.
