Roy Jones Jr Names The Best Moment Of His Career

Hall of Fame great Roy Jones Jr has revealed the greatest moment of his glittering professional career.

The Florida-native transitioned into the paid ranks back in May of 1989 after competing at the 1988 Olympic Games in Seoul, where he walked away with a silver medal, though it was widely accepted that he should have won the gold.

Jones rose to stardom during the 1990s where he would reign as a world champion at middleweight, super-middleweight and light-heavyweight, defeating the likes of James Toney, Antonio Tarver and Bernard Hopkins during this period.

He would go on to make the move up to heavyweight in 2003 where he would dethrone WBA world champion John Ruiz, defeating his countryman via unanimous decision in what is considered to be one of Jones’ greatest ever achievements.

Speaking on Ring Champs with Ak & Barak, Jones confirmed that his ‘historic’ victory over Ruiz is indeed the greatest achievement of his career.

“Honestly the heavyweight title was the best accomplishment in my career because it was historic. See here’s what you got to realise… by winning the heavyweight title, I’m the only man on planet earth, dead or alive, to ever start his career at 154 and become heavyweight champ of the world. Nobody ever. Understand me?”

Jones dropped back down to light heavyweight following his win over Ruiz where he would defeat countryman Antonio Tarver to unify the WBC and WBA titles at 175lbs, although he would suffer the second defeat of his career to ‘The Magic Man’ just months later.
