Roy Jones Jr has shared his thoughts on the respective credentials of both Floyd Mayweather and Manny Pacquiao.
The legendary duo are often considered to be two of the greatest fighters of the 21st century, racking up an abundance of world titles between them during their respective careers.
Filipino icon Pacquiao became a world champion in no less than eight weight classes during his career, sharing the ring with the likes of Oscar De La Hoya, Juan Manuel Marquez and Shane Mosley.
Mayweather remained unbeaten throughout his entire professional career, which came to an end back in 2017 after he defeated former UFC champion Conor McGregor in their crossover clash, hanging up the gloves with a perfect record of 50-0.
Mayweather and Pacquiao eventually locked horns with each other in what was dubbed as ‘The Fight Of The Century’ back in 2015. Despite the hype that surrounded their clash, the fight itself failed to live up to its expectations as Mayweather cruised to a comprehensive points victory to unify the WBC, WBA and WBO welterweight titles.
Another man that is regarded to be one of the best ever is Hall of Fame inductee Jones, and in an interview with The Ring, Jones said he feels Pacquiao actually had a better career than former rival Mayweather, as he claims the Filipino icon ‘fought everyone at his level’.
“Pacquiao fought everyone who was at his level. In my humble opinion, it’s almost safe to say that Pacquiao had a better career than Mayweather had. He didn’t make the money Mayweather made, but he fought the fights that were supposed to be fought, when it was time to fight them. He didn’t wait around.”
It had been widely reported in the last few weeks that Pacquiao and Mayweather were closing in on finalising a deal to face each other for a second time, but it appears ‘PacMan’ may now be targeting another name.
