Hall of Fame legend Roy Jones Jr has shared his thoughts on a potential rematch between Floyd Mayweather and Manny Pacquiao.
It has been reported in the last few weeks that five-weight world champion Mayweather is considering making a return to the sport to face Pacquiao for the second time, over ten years on from their monumental first encounter.
‘Money’ Mayweather got the better of Pacquiao when they locked horns in the ‘Fight Of The Century’ back in May of 2015, defeating the Filipino great via unanimous decision to unify the WBC, WBA and WBO world welterweight titles.
As the legendary duo potentially edge closer to finalising a deal to do battle once again, four-weight world champion Jones Jr has spoken out and shared his verdict on the situation.
In an interview with Fight Hub TV, Jones claimed that a rematch between Mayweather and Pacquiao would be a ‘great move’ for both fighters.
“I mean if they can do it and make the money doing it, great move for both of them. I mean, listen, I don’t hate on nobody making money. I can’t do that. I’d be crazy to do that. You understand me? Just don’t call my name when you’re doing it because you call my name I’m gonna have an issue.
“Manny’s chances go up now because he isn’t injured this time, they both are a bit older so if he can stay busier, we’ll see. Can Floyd still punch hard enough to get him out? I think he probably can but we’ll see. Can Manny avoid Floyd’s knockout punch, and can Manny out-punch Floyd is what I’m thinking.”
Pacquiao made a shock comeback to the sport back in July when he fought to a draw against reigning WBC welterweight champion Mario Barrios, his first ring appearance as a professional in just under four years.
As for Mayweather, the 48-year-old from Michigan announced his retirement from the sport after his crossover showdown with MMA superstar Conor McGregor back in 2017, although he has been involved in a number of exhibition bouts since then.
