Roy Jones Jr Says Mike Tyson vs Floyd Mayweather Fight Is ‘Lose Lose’ For One Man

Hall of Fame great Roy Jones Jr has shared a damning verdict ahead of the controversial meeting between Mike Tyson and Floyd Mayweather.

Whilst an official announcement is yet to be made, it was revealed back in September that former undisputed heavyweight champion Tyson would be facing ‘Money’ Mayweather in an exhibition clash this spring.

‘Iron Mike’ made a sensational return to boxing back in November 2024 when he suffered a unanimous decision defeat to YouTuber-turned-fighter Jake Paul at the conclusion of their controversial eight rounder in Texas.

As for Mayweather, the 48-year-old from Michigan has not fought as a professional since he faced former UFC star Conor McGregor in August of 2017, but the five-weight world champion has participated in a number of exhibition contests since then.

In a recent interview with si.com, Roy Jones delivered a brutal assessment on the controversial match-up between Tyson and Mayweather as he claims the heavyweight great finds himself in a ‘lose-lose’ situation.

“Mike can’t win. If he wins, he’s not going to be good. If he loses, he’s not going to be good. There’s no win for Mike. The money he will win, yes. But, outside of that, everything else is a loss. If he’s a businessman, he’s going to win in the bank, but he ain’t going to win in the ring.”

Tyson had been urged to go back into retirement following his heavyweight clash with Paul but as he approaches his 60th birthday, the once-formidable force remains set on proving that he still has what it takes to compete at a high-level.
