Fabio Wardley‘s heavyweight showdown with Daniel Dubois is fast approaching and Josh Kelly is the latest to have his say on it.
Dubois had been on a superb run throughout 2024, with a trio of impressive knocks over Jarrell Miller, Filip Hrgovic and former unified ruler Anthony Joshua.
That series of victories saw him become the IBF champion, only to be dethroned by Usyk who beat him by KO for a second time late last summer.
In the meantime, Wardley swiftly moved up the rankings with wins over Justis Huni and Joseph Parker, both by KO. Usyk, rather than defend his WBO belt against Wardley, vacated it and so the Ipswich man was promoted to full champion.
Speaking to talkSPORT Boxing, newly-crowned IBF super-welterweight champion Kelly broke down how he sees Wardley’s maiden defence going against ‘DDD’.
“Obviously, I think for the first six rounds, Daniel is a live wire, but we know Fabio can be hit, hurt, get back up and then knock you out. He carries that power until late, he’s got the equaliser, as well as Daniel has, but I think Wardley comes across more unorthodox with his style.
“Daniel is a lot more straightforward. He can move quite well, if he can hit him with them long range shot and hooks and stuff, Daniel, if he doesn’t move his feet and his head, he might find himself sat in front a bit and might get hurt. It’s a pick ’em fight, a stylistic match-up.”
Dubois has recently been reunited with his long-time coach Don Charles, following a short spell away, while Ben Davison is the man in Wardley’s corner.
