As the Chris Eubank Jr and Conor Benn fight draws nearer, Josh Taylor has given his view on how it might play out.
There is no love lost between generational rivals Eubank and Benn, who have been on a collision course since before October 2022 when they were first scheduled to fight.
With just days before the first bell, however, it was revealed that Benn had tested positive for a banned substance and so the fight was pulled.
He has since protested his innocence but it was only late last year that he was once again cleared to fight.
During that time, Benn fought just twice out in the United States and got two points wins against unheralded opposition, while Eubank fought three times. He was stopped for the first time in his career against Liam Smith, then knocked out the former world champion in the rematch, and got a further KO win last October against Kamil Szeremeta.
After Eubank slapped an egg into Benn’s face at the first press conference, Benn has now had to be held back after the pair appeared on Piers Morgan’s talk show last week.
Speaking to Seconds Out, former undisputed light-welterweight champion Taylor narrowly sided with Eubank for his experience.
“I’m not sure you know, I’m kinda half on the fence. I think Eubank has been in with better opposition, he’s only lost to the top guys in the world so yeh he’s been tested and proven at world level a couple of times so I’m edging towards Eubank but the edge and freshness is with Benn.”
He then gave his view on the rehydration clause.
“I think that’s a little bit heavy, I don’t know how much Eubank puts on after the weight in, to limit him to 10lbs, again, it is what it is. If it was for the IBF title that’s why it would be so he can’t grumble too much.”
