Former world heavyweight champion Anthony Joshua has been accused of ducking a fellow heavyweight.
Joshua has always been held up as someone who took on all challengers, and his CV backs that up. He has fought the likes of Dillian Whyte, Wladimir Klitschko, Andy Ruiz, and wasn’t afraid to put his unified titles on the line when he took on Oleksandr Usyk in 2021, and again in 2022.
After losing both fights on points, he rebuilt with four wins before then stepping in with the young and hungry IBF ruler Daniel Dubois, but was stopped inside five rounds back in September last year.
He has been recovering from an elbow injury since but is soon set to return to the ring. Many hope that before he retires, Tyson Fury will come out of retirement for an all British showdown, but in the meantime he has been accused of swerving American Jarrell Miller.
Speaking to YSM Sports Media, Miller – who pulled out of his last fight with Fabio Wardley – accused Joshua of ducking him.
“He wants big money tune-ups and hopefully he can land a Tyson Fury or a Deontay then it’ll be good night for him. He don’t want no top 5 contenders, he don’t want no top 10 contenders.
“He turned down a fight with me three times and, on top of that, I heard from someone in his own team in the promotional office, promotional wise they want it, but he don’t want it. Basically, he want me to come and apologise for me to get that fight. Suck my d**k I ain’t ever going to apologise to him.”
This pair has history of course: it was Miller who was supposed to fight Joshua in June 2019 before failing a drug test late in the day and being pulled from the card. He has since tested positive again for banned substances but returned to the ring with a win over Lucas Browne, a loss to Dubois and a majority draw with Ruiz last time out in August 2024.
