Anthony Joshua has been asked how he would react if he were to lose to Jake Paul tonight.
Paul is a huge underdog for most people ahead of the fight at the Kaseya Center in Miami, given that he has had just 13 fights and is nowhere near the level that Joshua has fought at for more than a decade.
The Brit is a former unified champion who has experienced everything there is to experience in the ring and remains in fine physical shape with a notoriously big punch.
Speaking at the final press conference on Wednesday, Joshua was asked by a member of the public what he would do if he lost.
“Come back again. You shake it off. And I’ll be headlining again in a year or two. It’s what it is. I’m a player in the game. You take some L’s, but without the L’s, you wouldn’t be here, ain’t it?
“You take some Ws, you dust it off. And then when I’m ready to hang up my gloves, I hang up my gloves, and everyone would say, ‘Yeah, you done well.’ “I’ve taken L’s, and I’m standing strong now.”
Joshua has come back from losses before. His first was an upset to Andy Ruiz Jr out in the United State sin June 2019, which he avenged in the rematch.
He then lost back-to-back contests with Oleksandr Usyk in 2020 and 2021, and again returned with some solid wins, only to lose by fifth round KO to Daniel Dubois in September last year.
If he were to lose to Paul in this fully sanctioned professional fight, however, it’s hard to see at this stage, and heading towards 40, quite how he would get back to world level before it was too late.
